The negotiating parties to the university collective agreement met on Friday, January 31, to discuss matters related to the universities’ finances. The actual negotiations begin on Tuesday, February 4 when the parties present their goals.
The general collective agreement for universities expires on March 31, 2025, and negotiation meetings have been agreed at regular intervals until the end of March.
– Universities play a key role in developing society. They not only train experts, but also create knowledge, reminds Hanna Tanskanen, Leading Special Advisor responsible for the negotiations at OAJ.
OAJ aims for a salary solution that improves purchasing power. With competitive salary solution and working conditions, universities can attract the best teachers and researchers to their staff.
The working conditions of teaching staff at teacher training schools are a part of the universities’ collective agreement, so those are also being negotiated in this context.
OAJ has approximately 2 200 members in the university sector. OAJ negotiates the agreement as part of the Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals (JUKO). Other employee organisations involved are the Trade Union Pro and Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL). The employer side is represented by Finnish Education Employers FEE (Sivistysala Sivista ry)
